DAY
2 HUAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYO
Today a steep ascent takes us through an area of tropical cloud
forest and up to the Llulluchayoc Valley. The views are spectacular
as we climb up to the Warmihuañusca Pass and then drop steeply
down again into Pacaymayo to make camp. (B;L;D)
DAY
3 PACAYMAYO - WIÑAYWAYNA
After we pass the remains of Runcuracay lookout, here we look across
the high nevados of the Cordillera Vilcabamba.
While traversing the Runcuracay Pass we soon notice a change in
the vegetation as we have crossed the continental divide into the
Amazon Basin. The Inca Trail now becomes more apparent, descending
past Yanacocha (The Black Lagoon), a dry lake; we reach the ancient
complex of Sayajmarca. Suddenly we enter the rain forest. The trail,
now unmistakable, passes at one point through an Inca tunnel before
opening out at the route’s highest Inca construction of Phuyupatamarca.
Now we are in open country again. We get glimpses of Mounts Pumasillo
and Salcantay in the distance, and thousands of feet below, we see
once again the Urubamba River. Then the long descent down the notorious,
never ending Inca steps lead us up to Wiñaywayna (Forever
young) Camp nearby. (B,L,D).

full grandeur of the greatest archaeological discovery of modern
times is revealed. Extensive guided tour. We then take the late
