Cusco-KM 104-WiñayWayna-Macchu-Picchu-Cusco
Trip
Profile
1 day walking with full assistance; altitude maximum 2700m, (9,000
ft), average 2400m. (8,000 ft) Grade A.
FULL DAY Inca Trail has been created for those who have a limit
amount of time but still with a chance to delight visiting Machu
Picchu in a challenging way.
In route you can enjoy the magnificent Inca construction of Wiñaywayna
consisting on towers, a series of semicircular terraces and houses.
After descending from the train at KM-104, you will cross a bridge
that leads you on to the starting point. Here begins your walk up
into the cloud-forested mountain sides to join the main trail and
descend into the Lost City on foot. There are no passes, and only
the quite short climb from the Urubamba River to Winay Wayña
makes any real physical demands.
Walking at this medium altitude is high enough to make gentle walking
uphill, but not high enough to cause severe altitude sickness problems.
Underfoot conditions are generally good, and the paths generally
well defined.
