DAY
2 : CUARTELWAIN - MITUCOCHA
We begin the hike with the slow ascent of Cacananpunta (15,666 ft./4,700m)
pass, with jagged icy peaks dominating the superb vista.
This
pass is the watershed of the ice flows into the Pacific to the west
and the Amazon to the east. Arrival at lake Mitucocha where we make
camp with the snow capped peaks of Jirishanca Chico y Grande, Rondoy
and Ninashanca towering above. (B;L;D)
DAY
3 : MITUCOCHA - CARHUACOCHA
A hike up the Cathuacocha pass (15,333 ft. / 4,600m) with an incredible
panorama including the peaks of Siula,Yerupaja, Sarapo, Toro and
Jirishanca Chico. Then through an area of puna (highland meadows)
to the camp beside another lake. (B;L;D)
DAY
4 : CARHUACOCHA - CARNICERO
With the Cordillera Huayhuash to our left, we ascend Carnicero pass
(15,833 ft. / 4,750m) reaching camp beside a series of lakes. Deep
below is the Huayhuash valley, with its small settlements of herders
and high above are Mounts Carnicero, Trapecio Jurau. (B;L;D)
DAY
5 : CARNICERO - VICONGA
Today we ascend the Huayhuash pass, through the village of Huayhuash,
with the Cordillera Raura looming up in the south. Good views of
Mounts Huascanan, Leon, Quesillojanca and Puscanturpa on the way.
Descending to make camp beside lake Viconga.

DAY
6 : VICONGA - CHURIN
We make the ascent over the Surasaca pass (16,000 ft. / 4,800m),
hiking along the shores of lake Surasaca for about an hour until
we reach the road, were a bus will be waiting to take us down the
Churin valley to the town of Churin, where you can soothe away all
those aches and pains in the relaxing waters of the thermal baths.
With overnight stay in hotel. (B;L;D)
DAY
7 : CHURIN - LIMA
Depart by bus back though Huaraz and onto the Pan-American Highway,
along the coast to Lima. (B;L)

equipment, cooking gear, guide, porter and donkeys, food, land transportation
from Huaraz to the trailhead and back to Lima
