About Pucusana

Port of Pucusana (© Stefan Austermühle)

Pucusana is a small and beautifull artisan fishing port about 70 kilometers south of Lima with only about some 10,000 inhabitants. People's life here is based on the ocean.

The small fishing dock of Pucusana forms the centerpoint of life. The painting of its frontwall shows the marine species that inhabit the area of Pucusana and are over looked by Saint Peter, the Saint for the fishermen.

During the fishing high season up to a thousand of the small wooded artisan fishing ports land their catch on the small pier awaited by a huge crowd of local fish workers that prepare the fish for waiting refrigerating trucks that provide the capital with fresh fish.

During the Peruvian summer from January to end of March the small beach of Pucusana becomes the main attraction for local beach tourists because of the extreemly calm waters in the sheltered bay of Pucusana.

At this time a great number of small restaurants are opening up and people love to walk along the promenade.
