DAY 01: IQUITOS / AMAZONAS SINCHICUY LODGE
Reception at the airport and transfer to the river dock. We navigate the Amazon on a comfortable and safe motorboat. Arrival to Amazonas Sinchicuy Lodge.
We will take a short walk or canoe ride (according to the season) to a Yagua tribe community, one of the most ancient ethnic groups of the Amazon rainforest. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we will proceed with an ethno-botany tour around the lodge, observing certain species of the local flora. We will also visit a shaman, who will explain the particularities of the regional plants and their applications. Later that evening, we will walk or take a canoe ride to experience the jungle after sunset.
Return to the lodge.
DAY 02: AMAZONAS SINCHICUY LODGE/TAMBO YANAYACU LODGE
Explore the primary jungle reserve of the Yanayacu River ecosystem. We sail on the Amazon in an open boat to spot pink river dolphins. Arrival to the Huashalado village and proceed on a short walk to the Yanayacu River, where another boat will be waiting to take you to our Tambo Yanayacu Lodge. As you sail, you will enter the "kingdom of the giant trees". It is named after the size some species reach, such as the "lupuna" or ceiba tree. With a bit of luck, you may spot monkeys moving along the high tree tops or a sloth, or "pelejo," hanging in the form of a branch, and thus making itself almost undetectable.
Arrival at the Tambo Yanayacu Lodge. In the afternoon, hike on jungle trails or take a canoe ride (according to the season) through primary jungle. Here you will observe the particularities of plants and trees from this ecosystem such as the Victoria Regia, a water lilac found in lakes and oxbows which can reach six feet in diameter. In this area it is also possible to see the "Hoatzin" or "Shansho", a particular bird with primitive features that feeds on tree leaves.
Return to the Tambo Yanayacu Lodge.
DAY 03: TAMBO YANAYACU LODGE
Early morning bird-watching on the Yanayacu River to observe the variety of birds including egrets, kingfisher, hawks and others.
Breakfast at the Tambo Yanayacu Lodge.
Excursion to Yagua Cocha oxbow and its surrounding areas. Walk in the lower forest where you will see a variety of plants and insects. Return to the lodge.
In the afternoon, visit a local village to observe their customs and way of life.
Return to the lodge.
DAY 04: TAMBO YANAYACU LODGE / IQUITOS / LIMA
Breakfast. Return to Iquitos.
At the proper time, transfer to the airport or your hotel.
