ALTA VIA DON BOSCO TREK
(12 Days / 11 Nights)

Huaraz -Ref. Ishinca - Honcopampa - Condormarca - Hualcan - Huaypan - Ref. Huascarán - Nordhang des Huacarán - Cebollapampa - Ref. Perú - Huaraz.

DAY 1: HUARAZ – PASHPA REFUGIO – ISHINCA.
Walk ascend 850mt
Timing 4 – 5 hours
Drive to Ishinca ravine by bus from Huaraz. After we have passed the towns of Pashpa we start to walk using a well marked trail which conduct us to the Ishinca Valley, here we can find quenual trees and rock walls that easily impress the visitor, the trail continues along the river field until we reach Ishinca refugee (,350mts)

DAY 2: ISHINCA REFUGEE
Day at leisure, this day we can make some turns likewise to climb up to 5000 mts or to visit Toclla lake or simply just relax the warm atmosphere in the refugee.

DAY 3: ISHINCA - HONCOPAMPA.
Walk descend 1000mts
Timing 4 – 5 hours
Taking the same route we descend until we reach a detour which take us to the archaeological remains of Honcopampa located left to the eucalyptus weed. It is very interesting to visit the old ruins of Honcopampa, ancient times they were commercial trading headquarters between the different areas in the White Cordillera. At the edge of the meadow there is a campsite near a stream running water that we use.

DAY 4: HONCOPAMPA – CONDORMARCA.
Walk ascend 900mts
Walk descend 850mts
Timing 6 – 7 hours
We start walking up hills north direction using a gravel road that continues to the Honda ravine where we go pass over the road that lead to the mines located at the end of the ravine. We continue walking over the road and then we arrive at Kekepampa ruins which contains evidences of an ancient military concentration center. Soon after we get into an eucalyptus weed where the road turns into a labyrinth until we arrive at a hill from where we can observe Mt. Huascaran. Afterwards we follows the path that goes north to the Condormarca valley (Camping area).

DAY 5: CONDORMARCA – HUALCAN.
Walk ascend 300 – 400 mts
Walk descend 150 – 250 mts
Timing 3 – 4 hours
We depart from Condormarca ravine through a bush and grassy road, after one hour walk we arrive to a water canal which will lead us to the nearby ruins of Copa Chico (An old Huge constructions place). From here the route takes us to the upper plains to continue hillsides parallel to the Cordillera until we reach a well defined path that goes up to higher areas over fields and grassy lands where we reach a hill that we will go pass and then descend to the meadows of Hualcan ravine.

DAY 6: HUALCAN – HUAYPAN.
Timing 5 – 6 hours
From Hualcan ravine to Huaypan town we start walking to the foot-steps of Hualcan morraine, then we continue walking over a well defined path through millenary erratic rocks that goes to Mt. Huascarán, then we crosses the Santac Uran ravine until we reach a hill that will lead us close to Gatay ravine, from here we will descend until we find a detour that will direct us to Huaypan Town. (Camp)

DAY 7: HUAYPAN - REFUGEE HUASCARAN.
Walking ascend 1,400 mts
Walking descend 80 mts
Timing 5 – 6 hours
Our path turns to the left side going through potatoes, corn and other crops. Then we approach the steep part of the path and continue until we arrive at a small meadow at 3,686 mts. From here we continue the walk below the Huascaran going by small streams surpassing quenuales weeds we continue ascending hillsides to the northwest, we go pass near a towering rock that stands up solitaire at 4,300 mts just before a number of laying rock plates piled up below the melting glacier. After a short distance walk we reach our next refugee at Huascaran located in a panoramic orientation.

DAY 8: REFUGIO HUASCARAN - CRESTA NORTE.
Timing 7 – 8 hours
The route begins descending and then we direct to the old base camp that still is in use by campers, afterwards, using the marked path with markstones we continue walking hillsides to a very steep moraine to continue through the melting glacier where there is no evidence of path. After this difficult section because of stone slides and the moving moraine we ascend again up to the crest, from here the Huascarán view is outstanding. melting glacier where there is no evidence of path. DAY 9: CRESTA NORTE - CEBOLLAPAMPA.
Timing 6 – 7 hours
This day we walk trough a still moving moraine always below Huascarán glacier. After some distance walk over rocky places we reach the crest which is surpassed doing a four grade mountain climb plus a 30 m rappel. We descend to the Llanganuco Lakes using a very steep path down the quenuales weed. Stop over to visit the lakes, continue to Cebollapampa campsite.
NOTE: Visitors with not enough training in this part of the trekking there is an alternative route, first going down to Musho and pick up our private bus that will bring you at Cebollapamapa (Camping)

DAY 10: CEBOLLAPAMPA – REFUGIO PERU
Walk ascend
Timing 3 – 4 hours
Using a very steep route we direct to Peru refugee, the effort is rewarded by beautiful views. After arrival at night you can celebrate with the traditional Pisco sour.

DAY 11: REFUGEE PERU
Day at leisure, it is posible to climb up the moraine or make exploratory walks.

DAY 12: REFUGEE PERU - LAGUNA 69 – HUARAZ.
Short climb through moraine remains get there and enjoy an outstanding view of 69 Lake just below Mt. Chacraraju
